Spurred by the increased use of smartphones, more than 139.5 million Europeans regularly shop online with 42 percent saying they buy on impulse (compared to 25 percent for non-mobile users). Those are just a few of the fascinating statistics revealed by a study from the financial group, ING.
What’s on a European’s mobile shopping list? Number one is clothing at 23 percent. Electronics comes in second at 21 percent. Number three are games at 12 percent, followed by holidays, music and groceries at 11 percent each.
The study, as reported on thepayers.com, goes on to say more Europeans are using alternatives to cash with almost half (49 percent) saying they use cash less often than they did 12 months ago and 40 percent claiming they rarely use it at all. And 45 percent of consumers predict they will use less cash in the next 12 months.
ING says 47 percent of Dutch respondents bank on smartphones compared to 31 percent of the British. The French? Fewer than one in five or 17 percent of do purchases on their smartphones.
